// Where is the Balance //

Friday, September 9, 2016

The Fall Semester at California State University, Dominguez Hills has started and I have even more on my plate. To say "overwhelmed" would be an understatement, but my mantra this semester is BALANCE! (<--- If you need a laugh watch this)

I wanted to create a "How to Color Coordinate Your Planner" type post because when I am stressed my PLANNER becomes my How to Survive Guide to Life.
(Click HERE to get $10 off an Erin Condren Planner).

Every time I look to Pintrest for answers on how to organize my planner, it doesn't have what I need as a single college student! It's always, How to Feed a Family of 5 or How to Coordinate for Single moms. I'm a SINGLE COLLEGE STUDENT on the brink of a meltdown if I don't know whats going on.

I've made it fun...I've made it easy...I made this for you :)

First things first...I wrote out everything I need to remember on an index card so I know what I need on my "key."
STEP 1:

STEP 2:
Then the fun begins..last year I used this key for my planner, but soon realized I needed it to change.
Take a look at both and see what works for you.

New...

STEP 3:
Step three is to pick out a color that is bright and beautiful, cut it out to size, and laminate it. If you don't have a laminator you could use a page protector.

STEP 4: Start planning. I personally don't like my planner to be circus colors..meaning I don't write in the color I have designated but instead continuing with my box color.

AND FINALLY STEP 5: WASHAI TAPE! Cuz if your not using it...you should start. It is an amazing tape that allows my planner to not only look cute, but is easily movable. If I don't like it's placement I could move it without my paper tearing.

I hope this post helps you organize your planner!
If you have any other advice please comment below.

// Mermaids, Peter Pan, and Adulting //

Thursday, August 18, 2016

I consider myself to be like the modern day Wendy. I know that I have to grow up, but I am holding on to every word Peter Pan has ever told me; To never grow up!
At this moment I am  28 and I've never felt so lost before. Don't get me wrong I like growing up, but there are a lot of disadvantages that people don't tell you about. Like, cleaning the bathroom, or checking your credit score, or one of the hardest realizations that you aren't going to be friends with people you've grown up with... due to life, a job, a boyfriend.
Regardless, growing pains are a real thing, and I have had enough with them.

I am starting this new chapter of my life with a new outlook. That just because you are growing up doesn't mean you need to be #basic!

One way I am letting my creative side show is by dyeing my hair purple, cause I'm 28 and I make my own decisions. I've always envied people who had to courage or flexibility to stand out.
 Confidence = Sexy.

Pintrest has been a G*O*D sent and has allowed me to explore this fun new world of color.

Some of you might be asking, " But Kalie don't you work for a hair company?"
Yes...yes I do, but I also am a teacher so I've never really looked into it!

So far, this is what I've come up with and am Loving the title:

// Beach Ready Books To Read This Summer //

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

Imagine...sitting on a beach, lounging in a comfortable lounge chair, a cool breeze sweeping across the sand, the faint sounds of seagulls gawking in the distance, and the creakiness sound coming from the binding of a new book!
Sounds like paradise to me.
Add a mojito and I'm good!

I have done my last research assignment for the semester and have complied a list of:

Kalie's Top 5 Book for Summer

 I Take You

By: Eliza Kennedy

Out May 24

Meet Lily Wilder: New Yorker, lawyer extraordinaire, blushing bride. And totally incapable of being faithful to one man.

Lily’s fiancé Will is a brilliant, handsome archaeologist. Lily is sassy, impulsive, fond of a good drink (or five) and has no business getting married. Lily likes Will, but does she love him? Will loves Lily, but does he know her? As the wedding approaches, Lily’s nights—and mornings, and afternoons—of booze, laughter and questionable decisions become a growing reminder that the happiest day of her life might turn out to be her worst mistake yet.

Unapologetically sexy with the ribald humor of Bridesmaids, this joyously provocative debut introduces a self-assured protagonist you won’t soon forget.

It's Okay to Laugh (Crying Is Cool, Too)

By Nora McInerny Purmort

Out May 24

Nora McInerny Purmort had been through the dating ringer and wasn't sure if she would ever find The One — until she met Aaron. They fell hard and fast in love, but not long afterward, Aaron was diagnosed with a rare, terminal brain cancer. Together, they had to decide how they would spend his remaining months.

This gorgeous and insightful memoir holds up the lens to mortality and leaves us with a reminder to make every moment count and value what is truly precious: time — and laughter.

Rich and Pretty

By Rumaan Alam

Out June 7

Female friendships are a complex and beautiful thing. But what happens when your best friend — who has been like a sister to you for nearly 20 years — suddenly becomes someone you're not sure you even like very much anymore?

This delightful debut explores the longtime relationship between Sarah and Lauren, besties who have grown up and apart but still can't deny the tether that binds them. A charming and insightful meditation on what it means to mature and adapt to adult life while still holding on to our shared histories, Rich and Pretty is a perfect pick for book clubs and BFFs — and, of course, for a day at the beach with the most important lady friend in your life.

Garden of Eden

By: Ernest Hemingway

A sensational bestseller when it appeared in 1986, The Garden of Eden is the last uncompleted novel of Ernest Hemingway, which he worked on intermittently from 1946 until his death in 1961. Set on the Côte d'Azur in the 1920s, it is the story of a young American writer, David Bourne, his glamorous wife, Catherine, and the dangerous, erotic game they play when they fall in love with the same woman. "A lean, sensuous narrative...taut, chic, and strangely contemporary," The Garden of Eden represents vintage Hemingway, the master "doing what nobody did better" (R. Z. Sheppard, Time).

Paint it Black

By: Janet Fitch

Josie Tyrell, art model, runaway, and denizen of LA's rock scene finds a chance at real love with Michael Faraday, a Harvard dropout and son of a renowned pianist. But when she receives a call from the coroner, asking her to identify her lover's body, her bright dreams all turn to black.

As Josie struggles to understand Michael's death and to hold onto the world they shared, she is both attracted to and repelled by his pianist mother, Meredith, who blames Josie for her son's torment. Soon the two women are drawn into a twisted relationship that reflects equal parts distrust and blind need.
With the luxurious prose and fever pitch intensity that are her hallmarks, Janet Fitch weaves a spellbinding tale of love, betrayal, and the possibility of transcendence.

// Down South //

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

Hello friends,
In a few days, I will be embarking on the second to last show of the spring season for Olivia Garden. Man does the time fly by!
I will be heading to Biloxi, Mississippi for the CosmoProf Fashion Focus Convention.
The last time I was in Mississippi was because my dad  put my sister and me in the back of our vintage van and drove us across the country...California to Virginia. It was a trip of a lifetime but now I only go by plane. Thanks dad.

It is going to be in the 80's with a slight chance of T-showers.
Yea, It wouldn't feel like the South without humidity and thunder showers.

I always head over to O L I V I A  G A R D E N to see all the latest how- to- series that are being rocked on the runway so that I look great at the show!

I have gathered my favorites from the website to share with you.

Enjoy

Working with Olivia Garden has been such a privilege, not only to see the latest trends for hair styles, but also seeing the latest tends in nails!
Summer is approaching faster than you can say...McExcuse me.... and one way to set yourself apart is by sporting the newest look. This year the biggest push is in metallics, or what I like to call Mermaid Metallics.
Back story time. When I was younger, I would watch the 90's classic, "Hook", and watch how Robin Williams is saved by colorful, beautiful, mermaids. I couldn't get over them! Teal Hair, Purple Hair, Coral Lipstick, Hot Pink Nail polish! Ahhh

So let me share my FAVORITE... FAVORITE... FAVORITE nail polish that I feel does Metallics justice!

M E T A L L I C S

My all time favorite nail varnish is by ILOVENP. A Nevada based company that is all about the well being for your little piggies.
For the lovers of moon beams, crystals, and all things spiritual, this nail varnish available on Etsy makes you feel out of this world.
And can we please repeat...HANDMADE IN THE USA!

-Every 12ml bottle is created by hand, with love, in the USA. Each bottle of nail polish includes a stainless steel ball for easier mixing, a rubberized cap for better gripping, and a wide brush for easier application. All ILNP nail polishes are 3-Free!

They DO NOT contain Toluene, Formaldehyde, or Dibutyl Phthalate.

*For those who did not go to cosmetology school, those are known as the "Toxic Trio."

Researchers are now studying the harmful chemicals to see if they can cause birth defects.
-Toluene: a solvent that helps nail polish go on smoothly but is neurotoix.
-Formaldehyde: a cancer-causing preservative
-Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) a chemical that keeps nail polish flexible but is known to interfere with reproductive hormones.

Some of my favorites are:

Cameo

MEGA

SUPERNOVA

To find all your favorite's head over to her Etsy shop!

Life gets messy, and there is no reason why your nails shouldn't look fabulous while cleaning it up.

// Three Reason why iReturned my Apple Watch //

Thursday, May 5, 2016

I admit that I am a little obsessed with any new technology. Who isn't?
I mean, I have heard of people living "off the grid," and don't get me wrong, I have fantasized living in a rainforest, eating bananas, with  my amazing Brazilian tan. But I believe the reality  is more like the television show, Naked and Afraid.

Back in 2014 Apple  came out with the Apple Watch, and the world went crazy for it! I wanted to give it some time before I leaped in arm first.
Moreover,  if I was going to pay... almost $400 dollars for a watch, it better be worth it.

I already feel like I'm part of the apple family, it's quite depressing really. Let's just put it this way, i'm one step away from Tim Cook being an Uncle.
A few weeks ago I was finally ready to cough up the dough and say, hell..WHY NOT!
In addition, I splurged a little more and got the Sport 42mm Rose Gold Aluminum Case with Stone Sport Band. Cuz gurl i'm fancy.

Then, something changed. I mean I liked it, for the first week.
Then I felt it became "just another thing" to charge.

Here are my T H R E E reasons why I said, "Oh No Thanks":

1) The Battery Life SUCKS:

I was excited when I read that the battery life lasted up to 18 hours... but they really should have emphasized the "up to" part. Most of the apps I would, and that are automatically placed on your Apple Watch  ran down your battery dramatically, which maked it really 8 hours instead of 18...

2) The Screen is Too Small

The overwhelming amount of notifications I got on my "small computer" was too much for me to go through on the small screen. I would wind up going to my phone or computer.

3) Speaker Phone only

I don't know what kind of friends you have, but I have some that I can't have on speaker phone. They are the reason why the memes were created. I didn't like to answer my "Secret Agent" styled watch because the speaker system was so lame that the person wouldn't be able to hear me unless I was screaming at my watch.

So save your money FAM and splurge on some nice shoes instead.Like these...

Life gets Messy....and an Apple Watch won't help clean it up.

We all do it.
Around this time of year we begin to remind ourselves of the pledge we took at the beginning of the year...kind of like our own, personal, creative, pump up jam. "This Year..It's Different, I am going to eat more veggies, no more Doritos, and I am going to work out everyday." Well it's May and my question is, how's that New Year,  New Me thing going?
Still strong or has dwindled like the feeling of it only being Wednesday?

I'm starting to see inspirational meme's of diets and fashion.
The Fat Jew said it the best...

The best way that I stay motivated is by eating right, working out, and following these lovely ladies.

// Party Like a Pineapple //

Friday, April 22, 2016

My lovely sister is turning 26 next week, and I have been put in charge of planning the festivities! Now when you think about turning 26 you don't think of having a BIG party. Those are usually saved for 13, 16, 18, 21, 25, 30, and ever decade there after. BUT...my sister has always helped her friends put on big parties, and this time it's her turn!
Ashley, is a graphic designer and so of course she is always on the latest trend. So for this party it is Party like a Pineapple, Flamingos are my friends, and Coachella put in a brown paper hipster bag and shaken not stirred. Of course I loved trends as well so this is going to be so fun for the both of us!
I am so excited to make the sign of a thousand posts for her party!
The tutorial will be posted this weekend..but it is going to say things like:

Slay
All My Friends Are Models
Loose off that Goose
Tacos Tequila Tan Lines
Saucin'
Rose' All Day

You get the picture. I think she is going to love it.
For the food and drinks its going to be Pineapples all the way!
I am going to be making this gorgeous find --->click here

...and drink are going to be on deck

---> click here for the Pineapple Mojito Drank

A bunch of us are getting together this weekend  to put some final details...I can't give it all away but I hope that this helps give any ideas to inspiring Party like a Pineapple lovers.

//HAIR LIFE//

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

Life is busy...like more busy than usual. I have just returned from the Seattle Fashion Focus hair show  by Cosmo Prof...the company that just added famous hairstylist, Larisa Love ( if you don't follow here on insa yet...here is your sign).
This year was a little different than my trip last year.  I was able to hang out with an old friend and have girls night, visit Capital Hill..you know, do what the locals do.
I was excited to be able to have some normality.

** Warning...a picture is worth a thousand words..so this is a long picture oriented blog post..enjoy**

Last year I posted about my first time visiting Seattle  which had a bucket list of activities I wanted to check off..click on the link and see how you can do. I usually am a type of girl who likes to go go go when I am on the road. See new restaurants, go to clubs, and see what the town has to offer. This trip though was all about relaxation. This is the last of four shows I have just finished doing since March. I'm not finished yet though, in a few weeks I will be heading off to MISSISSIPPI, which should be interesting due to all of the coverage about their new law. If you don't know...click here

BUT...lets do a recap of the last month!

In March, Olivia Garden was at the IBS New York Hair Show, which I am still amazed that I get to go and even be on this amazing team.
Lets just say  6 days there are never enough.

My bosses are amazing, they are foodies, just like me and normally our trip consists of working and eating.. My favorite part of the trip was going to Buddakan, a five star hole in the wall.

It was an amazing experience. Placed in the Meat District, this place does not disappoint.

Next up was the Saint Louis, MI Hair show.

This one is a favorite because it is the first time I am seeing some of my "road friends" since last year in June for the Premier hair show in Orlando, FL which I talk about here <--!

FOLLOW ME ON SNAPCHAT @ iamkalie to see all my adventures

If you are ever in Saint Louis, I suggest you going to SugarFire. It was featured on Triple D...Diners, Drive In, and Dives..This place does not disappoint! I mean come on, look at those ribs!

I hope you have enjoyed reading..or really seeing what life is like on the road for me. Stay tuned because next post I will be sharing my next project at home...renovating a bathroom...random but fun!

Life gets messy...but here are the messes that matter.
